Press Release – For Immediate Release Supporting
You Announces Name Change to MindWorks
September 25, 2002 – Supporting You, a leading provider of rehabilitation
support services for individuals living with the effects of brain injury, today
announced a new corporate name — MindWorks. Originally established in 1989
in Toronto, services are now provided throughout southeastern Ontario.
According to Terry Lamont, Founder and Executive Director of MindWorks, "Our
new name reflects our commitment to delivering professional, quality services
and programs to individuals living with the effects of brain injury. The name
change also reflects the recent company growth. In the past year we have opened
a new head office in Peterborough, ON; doubled our management staff, increased
our rehabilitation support staff and established a Toronto location.”
MindWorks firmly believes that every individual has the right to self-determination
and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Every person with a brain
injury deserves quality support to help him or her achieve and maintain the greatest
possible degree of involvement with society.
"It was time," said Lamont, "to change our corporate name in
order to align with our progression into wider service and program offerings.
MindWorks provides complete rehabilitation support services including much needed
vocational services such as job preparation and placement; job coaching; and long-term
follow-up and evaluation.”
Recent government reports indicate that as our population ages, the number
of individuals with disabilities will increase. Further, the trend in health care
today is towards early release from hospital, home based care and self-sufficiency
as early as possible. Rehabilitation services such as those provided by MindWorks
play a vital role in this transition.
The statistics around acquired brain injury (ABI) and traumatic brain injury
(TBI) are disturbing. Every day in Ontario 46 people sustain an injury to the
brain. As well, brain injury is the number one disabler of males under the age
of 35. On an annual basis 16 000 Ontarians acquire permanent brain injuries.
MindWorks offers a variety of rehabilitation services based on individual needs.
With treatment provided by appropriately skilled professionals, individuals can
learn to function at their maximum potential.
MindWorks provides community based rehabilitation and support assistance to
allow persons with brain injury to maximize their performance and independence
in all areas of life.
